| | What questions should we ask of our Christian faith? I hope these thoughts will inspire anyone and help all to consider the way. i AM NOT OFFERING ANSWERS!! But ways to consider..... Marriage
In the Bible the Church is often spoken of as being the 'bride' of Christ. It is an exciting and challenging concept so we will have a slow and thoughtful look at this concept and think about what it means to each of us. 1. Isaiah had a fantastic relationship with God. He brought the message to a people of judgement and hope. He did not back away from sharing the message no matter how difficult. Isaiah 50 4 The Sovereign LORD has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught. 5 The Sovereign LORD has opened my ears, and I have not been rebellious; I have not drawn back. 6 I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting. 7 Because the Sovereign LORD helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame. Because Isaiah trusted and did not doubt the instructor, the message, or the messenger he put up with anything and knew that his relationship with God would not be put to shame. In a modern stage song 'Close every door to me' for the show 'Joseph', the words ring true also for Joseph who after being sold as a slave by his brothers, betrayed by his masters wife, forgotten by all and shut in a dungeons he sings 'if my life were important I would ask will I live or die, but I know the answers lie far from this world'... 'Children of Israel are never alone'. No matter what this world offers we know that God has promised to be with us. 2. Isaiah considered his relationship with God to be two way. ' He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught' and in response to this he says 'and I have not been rebellious; I have not drawn back.'
We can also be confident as Jesus came to invite us all to be part of this amazing relationship. |

David had a wonderful relationship with God, unique in many ways. We only have to read the Psalms which express his love, awe, understanding of God. He petitions God while on the other accepts justice and authority. His relationship is one which calls for a deeper engagement on a personal emotional and human level than others that had been before him. Throught he Psalms we feel a personal dialogue between a man and God; A spiritual diary. 2. Compare Pslam 26 and Psalm 51. The Psalms unveil a profound message which share the deep relationship of a man with God. They also hold a prophetic message concerning the future of Gods relationship with mankind.

He had followed the calling of God and even obeyed when asked to 'take his son and offer him there for a burnt offering.' (Gen 22:2) An interesting lesson which is not often shared is that Abraham was asked to take the 'son whom you love'. The emphasis is is upon offering the son whom you love. We can hear Gods unconditional love being explored in this chapter and scene. A good father loves his child. He would lay down his life down to save his child. But the love of a father has conditions... character, grades, hobbies, etc... Here we find God calling out for unconditional love. Abraham accepts the word of God unconditionally and knows that what God commands or asks can be trusted. 2. He offers his son. He offers his love. Without complaint or question he offers his love to God unconditionally This is a beautiful picture and lesson that we can take into our hearts and lives. To love God unconditionally and offer our love unconditionally also to our wives, husbands, children, friends.

It is so special that it is almost romantic. If you did not know that Moses was speaking to God you would think he were talking to a very special person with whom he was able to relate deeply. He returns up the mountain and plea's with God to forgive the people for the sin. When God says no he continues with his plea. When you study this conversation in more depth you will find self sacrifice, total trust in the depth and love of God, dedication and intimacy. '9As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the LORD spoke with Moses. 10 Whenever the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent, they all stood and worshiped, each at the entrance to his tent. 11 The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend.' exodus 33 Let us stand at the entrance to our tents and stand to worship. May we love and serve God as a friend.

God told Hosea to take an adulterous woman as his bride. To make a family with her. The book is really worth reading as it describes God love for his people both his anger and his forgiveness. It has many verses that relate to Christ coming and help us understand our relationship with Christ and and Gods desire for us to be in his presence. Being 14 short chapters it could be read slowely and thoughtfully over 2 weeks. 'After two days he will revive us; on the thrid day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence.' Hosea 6:2 Let us be pure to God. Let our hearts, mouths, thoughts declare God. Let us be true and sincere. |
